Named after the Positive Ageing Strategy for New Zealand, Positive Aging New Plymouth was formed in 1999, the International Year of the Older Person.
In 2004 it became a Charitable Trust.

Positive Aging is a co-altion umbrella group of older aged organisations,community groups, non government organisations and Government Ministries and Departments.All have close involvements and interests in our organisation and senior citizens.

The Trust works collaboratively to identify and meet the needs of older people in the community, ensuring that older people within the New Plymouth District are active participants in improving their quality of life and enjoy positive ageing.

We have two aspects to our organisation:-

• Positive Aging Trust - responsible for governance
• Positive Aging Working Group - members of kindred organisations

How can you or your organisation get involved?

Meetings

• Meetings are held monthly
• Working parties have also been set up to work on key areas such as health, retirement and housing

Quarterly Forum

These are held quarterly and are open to the public. It is a good opportunity to share information and discuss issues relevant to older people in the district.

Workshops

Special workshops can be organised following forum - if there is a need to discuss issues further or seek more information.
