How it operates Two shuttles operate Monday to Friday (except on Public Holidays) and run from the Horowhenua Health Centre, Liverpool Street, Levin to Palmerston North Hospital, and any other medical provider in Palmerston North as required. There are pickup points at Tramways Café, Main Street, Foxton and Shannon Medical Centre, Stout Street, Shannon.
Cost The Service will transport passengers for a reasonable donation made to the Trust. There are donation envelopes and donation tins on the shuttle vehicles. Tax receipts are available, on request, for donations of $5 and above. Receipts are posted out at the end of each month.
The benefits of using the service People using the Service will arrive relaxed, have no parking worries and travel in comfort. A priority for the Service is to get passengers to their appointments on time.
Reservations Bookings are essential. Please try and give as much notice as possible when making your reservation, as the Service is very well patronized. To make a reservation contact Shuttle Coordinator Raewyn on (06) 368 5519 between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
Who is eligible to use the Shuttle Service? Patients and their caregivers travelling to attend health related appointments at health services/facilities providing both Primary Healthcare and Secondary Healthcare.
You may be asked to provide proof of your medical appointments.
Hospital visitors may also use the Service if there are seats available, however, patients will always have priority.
Medical aids You can take your walking frame or other medical aid with you on the shuttle. Please make you requirements known when making your reservation.
Wheelchairs One of the shuttle vehicles is fitted with a wheelchair lift. If you are travelling with a wheelchair, or cannot manage the shuttle steps, enquire about the availability of the wheelchair shuttle when making your reservation.
Children Approved child restraints are available for children under 7 years and babies. You will need to make a request for a child seat when making your reservation, or bring your own with you when travelling; in either case please advise the Coordinator of your needs.
In the interest of safety, it is Trust policy that children under the age of 5 years will not be carried other than in an approved child restraint; children 5 – 7 years may be restrained with a seat belt, where there is no approved child restraint available appropriate to the child’s age and size.
