Care is free of charge and provided wherever people need it – at the hospice inpatient unit, at home or an alternative comfortable environment.
Our patients generally prefer to be in their own home. Arohanui Hospice has a team of community nurses who support people at home by providing nursing support and advice, as well as co-ordination of their care.
The community nurses work in active partnership with other professionals such as GPs, practice nurses, Maori health providers and district nurses in providing that care. Arohanui Hospice maintains its involvement if a patient needs to enter a residential care facility for ongoing care.
The majority of patients cared for each year by Arohanui Hospice have cancer. However, we also care for people with non-malignant conditions such as motor neurone disease, respiratory disease and heart disease.
