Age Concern is an independent, charitable, not-for-profit incorporated society. We have a small team of staff who work along side volunteers to provide our services. Our support services for older people are mostly provided free of charge. We rely on donations, grants and service contracts to maintain our activities. You can assist by giving your time and energy, or a donation, to help ensure that older people in our region enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle.
Services Offered
Our Community Co-ordinator can provide you with support and assistance, advice on available services, liaise with other community agencies, and visit you at home to provide information to assist you to make positive choices.
Elder Abuse & Neglect Prevention
Staff are available to confidentially discuss problems of suspected abuse or neglect, and will assist in obtaining help.
The Co-ordinator provides training for carers and professionals, and a public awareness programme.
Accredited Visiting Service
Our co-ordinator trains and supports volunteers who visit those living alone in the community. Both the older person and the visitor enjoy the friendship that develops from this regular contact.
Health Promotion
Age Concern organizes seminars and forums on a range of topics that are relevant to older people.
Community Support
There's a range of services available including information and education, support and assistance with consumer issues, life stories booklets, mobility vouchers, friendship forums, handy-hands, wheelchair hire, and the 'Safe with Age' driving programme.
Newsletters
A regular newsletter is produced with articles and information for older people.
